Happy Birthday, Jorja!

Mmmmm...Candy Corn!
In Science today, the question was:  Will a pototoe change when we bake it?  So, in order to answer this question, we had to bake pototoes, and yes, we found out, they do change.  One thing we know for sure, is that they taste WAY better baked and topped with butter and sour cream!

A note is coming home today regarding the "Home-School Partnership Project". Please check either the "consent" or "no consent" and return it to the school no later than Friday.

In Math today, we estimated and counted a group of 67 pennies.  We used tallies to keep track of the pennies as we counted by ones.  We then used the tallies to count by 5s and 10s.  We also used Ten Frames to place the pennies on.  We made 6 groups of 10 and 7 were left over.  We had 67 pennies in all.

In Language Arts, we captured a Monster In A Jar!  Students drew a detailed monster that they will be using to focus thier next writing project on.

Snap! Crackle! Pop! Rice Krispie Squares!

This morning we followed the instructions to make a batch of Rice Krispie Squares, we saved them for dessert.  They were scrumptious!  The marshmallows were so gooey when they came out of the microwave!  Next, we followed our instructions that we wrote to build our own sandwiches!  We had so much fun making and ESPECIALLY eating our sandwiches.  Thanks to all the mom and dads who helped to make sure that all supplies made it to school - everyone was very prepared!  I suggested to the kids that they are now pros at sandwich building and can help make lunches at night!  A few figured I had a master plan.....

  • Library tomorrow

Write Around The School
In Science we discussed the word "dissolve". We tried mixing two different solids with water to see what would happen. First we tried coffee; it smelled delicious, but the solid coffee grinds did not dissolve. Next we tried peach Jello; the crystals completely dissolved! Not only did it dissolve, but it tasted delicious!! Take a look through your pantry, are there any solids in there that would dissolve in water?

It's Raining, It's Pouring....

In Science, we heated water to make water vapour.  We then cooled the water vapour and it condensed into a liquid again.  Ask your child to explain how we made it rain in our classroom.

In Math today, we read the story Even Steven and Odd Todd.  It is a funny story about two cousins whose lives revolve around things being even numbered or things being odd numbered.

Ask your child this:  If Even Steven was coming to visit, how many pieces of candy would he like to eat? (Their answer should be an even number)

  • Tomorrow hot lunch.
  • WWW test tomorrow

Chocolate Milk-sicles!

I apologize for a late blog...but I wasn't absent yesterday afternoon!

In Science yesterday we enjoyed a chocolate milk-sicle.  We changed a liquid into a solid using ice!  It was delicious!

In Math today, we continued our focus on skip counting using a Hundreds Chart.

*Library tomorrow!

Can you make it to Planet Power?

In Health today, we discussed how combing healthy food choices and physical activities help us feel healthy and strong.  We found a game on the internet.  I have posted the link for your child to see if he/she can make it to Planet Power!

http://www.choosemyplate.gov/kids/kids_game.html

In Math today, we used a Hundreds Chart to see patterns when we count by 2, 5, and 10.  To reinforce this skill:
  • Choose a starting number between 0 and 100
  • Choose an ending number between 0 and 100
  • Choose a skip counting pattern
  • Have your child lead the counting
For example:  Count backwards by 5s from 45 - 15

  • New WWW/POW went home today
