Water Cycle Races

In Science today, we learned the terms in the Water Cycle:  evaporation, condensation & precipitation. Using a straw, students raced a large drop of water through the Water Cycle - it was cool to observe the cohesiveness of the water molecules!

In Math today, we worked on subtraction questions with re-grouping.  We practiced solving equations using base ten blocks:

This week....

Thank you to Mr. Hill, Mr. Falkenberg and Mr. Milson for joining us on our TWOS fieldtrip last Friday. We all had a super day!

  • Home Reading was sent home...please return all books and bags on Thursday.

Water cycle
Today we looked at how the sun heats the water on Earth.  This process, called evaporation, changes water from a liquid to a gas called water vapour!  We put this baggie filled with water in our window, hoping to see how the water cycle works.

Permission Slips due on Friday

In Math today, we began subtraction.  I was super happy about the ease at which 2S completed Math Workshops today - such mathematicians!  This week, our Workshops are focusing on subtracting multiples of 10 using a 100s chart, Base Ten Materials and an Open Number Line.  Ask your child to solve the following question and explain their thinking:  68 - 30 = _?_

Paper is not a good material to line a strawberry basket, neither is a kleenex.  Ask your child what materials did work to hold the water in.....

Stuck like glue....

In Science on Friday, we observed the surface of calm water (surface tension).  First we made predictions, guessing how many drops of water we thought we could stack on a penny before it overflowed.  Using medicine droppers, we carefully began putting water, drop by drop, onto the flat surface of the penny.  We discussed how water is held onto the penny by surface tension.  Too much water caused the "skin" to break, making the water run off the penny!  The "dome" we observed forming on top of our pennies was cool!
