Congratulations and Thank You!

Thank you to all of the parents who were able to stop in tonight and celebrate their child's successes.  Your children are super proud of their work and loved sharing what they have learned!

This afternoon, students assembled to be congratulated on a job well done for the Spell-A-Thon!  RBES families raised over $9000!!!  Unbelieveable!  In 2S, nine students got 100% on their tests, several students received prizes at the assembly and the entire school won when they each received ice cream sandwiches!  What a treat!

CWACOM Day!

What a great day...celebrating all of the hard work everyone put into their own versions of the story, Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs.  Mrs. Mullen's kinders enjoyed listening  to our wonderfully written stories. We sent them on their way with Chocolate dipped strawberries, inspired by JL's writing: "Sweet chocolate fondue rained down from the north. It was hot and melted when it landed in the fountain."  In the afternoon, we got cozy on cushions, watched the movie and munched on popcorn! Parents will get a chance to hear these stories during Student Led Conferences next week!

Nothing like fresh snow for Beach Vacation Day and a fine welcome one of my favorite seasons.....Spring!

Looking Into Next Week....

On Monday and Tuesday, Mrs. Tolsma will be covering for me while I attend the 2 day Project Based Learning Workshop. At this workshop, I will be planning and designing an engaging and rigorous project for my students.

Reminders:
  • Return Spell-a-thon monies by March 23rd
  • Book Fair - March 23 - 25
  • Student Led Conference Open House - March 25th from 3:30 - 7 pm
  • TWOS of Thursday, March 26th
  • PD Day - No School - March 27th
STUDENT LED CONFERENCES

Conferences are being held on Wednesday, March 25 from 3:30 - 7:00 pm. There is no formal schedule; we will be using a drop in format. The students have been excitedly getting ready to show off what they have been learning! Expect to spend approximately 20 minutes with your child on this evening. Please understand, because of the level of traffic on this night, there will be no individual interview times with teachers. If would like to speak with your child's teacher individually, please phone or email them and they can arrange a time with you on another day. Many parents utilize these individual meetings regularly and our hope is that if there is a concern or you require a meeting that you let us know as the need arises. We hope to see all of our families out on this evening!

BOOK FAIR

Just a reminder to all that our spring book fair is being held the same week as the student led conferences: March 23-25. Specific hours for this event will be sent out shortly. We hope to see you there!

In Math today, students were adding 1-digit and 2-digit numbers using an Open Number Line.  Check our your child's agenda for an example of what this looks like.  We also learned a new dice game called 'Horserace' to practice our basic facts.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

A lot of excitement in 2S today.  A tricky little Leprechaun dropped by in the wee hours and left chocolate toonies and cupcakes to enjoy!

It was also Tasty Tuesday today!  Thank you to Mrs. Sparrow who volunteered in our classroom for the afternoon and purchased the ingredients to make Leprechaun Shakes!

Today we learned a new game called, Card Salute!  The goal is to be the first player to correctly identify the missing addend.  The referee deals one card to each player.  The players, on the referee's count of 3, place the card on their foreheads (no peeking allowed!)  The referee calculates the sum and verbalizes the sum out loud to both players.  Players now calculate the missing addend.  The first player to give the correct answer outloud places the cards into their point pile.  The player with the most cards is the winner!
