Rescue Notes and Boats

Today students were faced with the challenge to build a miniature boat to send a message for help!  The materials they were given were either writing paper, plastic, newspaper, foil, wax paper and tree sap (tape). So far, the newspaper boat has sunk, we will check in tomorrow with the remainder of the boats.

Bike Safety begins on Monday!

We are biking for the next two weeks during our regular gym classes.  On Monday we bike from 10:25 - 11:00 am.  Please ensure your child's bike is tuned:  is the right size,  has brakes that work, has tires that are filled with air, etc.  Students are allowed to store their bikes in the school for the duration of bike safety.  Please feel free to join us for a bike ride!

Enjoy the long weekend!

In Science today, we changed the shape of an object that sinks (plastercine) so that it would float.  We added pennies to our clay boats to see how much of a load it could carry before capsizing.  Jada's boat held 19 pennies!!!

The winning boat!

The Clay Guy is here tomorrow!

1.  New Home Reading books were sent home.

2.  New Word Sort - The spelling patterns this week focus on the R-Controlled vowels ER, EAR and EER.  We completed the sort as a class today, as the EAR pattern is particularly challenging.

3.  New WWW this week:

In Science today, we were faced with another challenge!  Students were asked to alter or add to a non-floating object (a rock!) so that it will float.  We experimented with materials that floated and connectors.
