Early Dismissal Tomorrow @ 2:15 pm

Students had fun learning and playing a new game called Ladders during our Rise and Shine Calendar time this morning.

In Social Studies, we took a closer look at each communities 'land' features.  Students hilighted text and took bullet notes.  We recognized that the land in Devon is snow and ice covered during the winter, just as it is in Iqaluit!  The difference is that the land below the surface, in Iqaluit,  is ALWAYS frozen!

In Math, students completed a Patterns Assessment assignment.

In Daily 5, we have built up to 15 minutes of stamina during Read To Self and 6 minutes during Writing Time!  Our Foundation lesson today was Listen to Reading: Set Up the Technology.  Students will be using the Chromebooks as one device for Listen to Reading.  They were shown how to log in, how to access Listen To Reading websites and what to do.

We had library today!

Student Verification Forms were sent home today.  It is extremely important to have these forms returned as soon as possible, allowing the office time to make any updates or changes to your child's file.

In Math today, students were given 15 beads (3 of one color, 6 of one color and 6 of another color).  They worked in pairs to design a pattern that showed at least 3 repeats of a pattern core and  all the beads had be used.

A new game we learned in our Rise and Shine Binder.  All you need is a pencil and 4 'halved' circles.  Ask you child to teach you how to play!

What a beautiful, sunny Friday!

For gym today, students participated in an Physical Activity Orienteering activity.  Using a map of the school yard, students ran around to several 'controls' and completed various physical activities.  Ask them which was their favorite!

With a partner, students played a game called Spider Trap today - so fun!

In math, we continued building repeating patterns.  Students used a 'pattern core string' to circle the core (the part that repeats) in each pattern.

Unfortunately, my phone email is blocked and I am unable to receive any pictures for our BLOG!

In Math today, we began the unit on Patterning.  Students used manipulatives (unifix cubes, buttons, pattern blocks, etc.) to create repeating patterns.  We focused on building, describing and extending AB repeating patterns.  Check your child's agenda for an example of their work.  Can they predict what will come next?

I apologize for the incorrect information regarding early dismissal today in my newsletter.  Our first Early Dismissal will be on October 1st.

Off to a great start!

Our first day is in the "books" and what a great day it was!  This morning, students were welcomed in front of the school where they learned where we will be lining up each morning.  This is a new morning routine and one that we are all very excited about!

In the morning we talked about the many emotions you may feel on the first day of school.  To calm any nerves we drank a little Jitter Juice.  Yummy!

Students created their self portraits for our class shirts.  The order is going in tomorrow, please send $12 to school as soon as you are able.

In the afternoon, Mary Lambert visited the school and performed for all RBES students.  Madison and Damien enjoyed "shakin' it up" on stage!
