Indian Culture

Thank you to Rohan's mom, Mrs. J.P, for joining our class today to share their Indian Culture.  She brought in pictures, traditional clothing, showed a small video and allowed us to sample authentic Indian food.  It was a great opportunity for our students to see how multicultural Canada is.

We loved the Festival Of Storytelling!

We had a great day!  We began with Storytelling through Pictures:  We made a storyboard with a local film maker - the pictures we took to create the storyboards will be emailed to us soon.  Next, we were off to the How To Make A Monster Exhibit:  We were able to see the original storyboards drawn before the monsters and movies were made.  Thirdly, we were introduced to Storytelling through Shadow Puppetry:  We each were able to make a shadow puppet and re-tell a part of "Where The Wild Things Are".  Lastly, we worked on creating  stories with a Writer-in-Residence from the Edmonton Public Library.  A huge thank you to Mrs. Bade, Mrs. Hill and Mrs. Stewart for joining us today!

Festival Of Storytelling

Tomorrow is our fieldtrip to the TWOS for The Festival of Storytelling.  I will be providing a pocket snack for each child since we are there until 12:00 pm.  I am also asking that students wear their indoor shoes, which will be more comfortable than wearing snow boots all day.  If there are any concerns, please feel free to contact me.

Students should have a pretty good start on their Cultural Festival Assignment.  Festival dates are as follows:

February  3 - Iqaluit Day
February 4 -  Meteghan Day
February 5 - Saskatoon Day

Fish Free Sushi

• New WWW went home today - please review these words daily.  In class we play games to help us recognize these High Frequency Words.  Below is a link with a fun game

Roll & Spell Homework

• New Word Sort went home today - this week we are focusing on the long /u/ sound spelled oo as in school; ui as in fruit; and cvce as in prune

• Home Reading went home today.

In Math today, we started our next unit:  Addition and Subtraction to 100.  We used both manipulatives and an open number line to solve addition questions. This week, our focus is on adding 2 digit numbers to a multiple of 10....For example: 45 + 10.  Check our your child's agenda to see a sample of what an open number line looks like.
